MTU’s successful acquisition of the substantial funding from Enterprise Ireland under the ERDF Regional Programme underscores its strategic vision and collaborative ethos. The €1.2 million injection serves as a catalyst for expansion of the university’s knowledge transfer endeavours, facilitating the seamless transition of cutting-edge research outcomes into tangible solutions that address industry challenges and societal needs. At the core of this funding success lies MTU’s proactive engagement with Enterprise Ireland.
Dr Christian Stafford, Head of KTI and Head of R&I Stakeholder Engagement at EI says:
“On behalf of EI and KTI, we are delighted to announce the strategic funding award under the new KT Boost programme to MTU. Through KT Boost this funding will help drive the significant evolution and enhancement of knowledge transfer activities from MTU both regionally and nationally. The funding specifically will support the Innovation and Enterprise Office of MTU to retain and hire highly skilled staff, support commercialisation from the growing MTU research base and drive research collaboration with industry to access its research infrastructure, capability and talent. The KT Boost funding also complements the recent EI and ERDF co-funded investment in CyberInnovate at MTU which has huge potential to transform the entrepreneurial and spin-out agenda in the region. The new award builds on previous support under the Technology Transfer Strengthening Initiative (TTSI) and we look forward to working in partnership with MTU to realise the full potential of their research and innovation capabilities for economic and societal impact. “
This funding is a vote of confidence in MTU’s academic talent, research infrastructure, and the expertise of its faculty members and will empower MTU to expand its knowledge transfer activities across diverse sectors ranging from biotechnology and renewable energy to information and communication technologies. Through strategic collaborations with industry partners, startups, and SMEs, MTU aims to accelerate the commercialisation of research findings, stimulate entrepreneurship, and contribute to a culture of innovation in the region and nationally.
