Cllr. Ken O’ Flynn has confirmed that he has written to the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Deputy Seán Fleming TD asking him to launch an immediate investigation into Cork County Council and its Executive over the spending of up to €50m of tax payers money on the Bottlehill super dump.
“Now that Cork County Council has effectively confirmed that it is not going to use the Bottlehill super dump for its original purpose and wants a third party wind farm erected on it, it is clear to everyone that the spending of up to €50m of tax payers money by Cork County Council was a complete and utter waste of money. The last nine years has seen millions spent by Cork County Council on security for a site that never opened and now we have a situation where effectively €50m of an investment is being written off. This is just not on and not good enough for a local authority and I have today asked the Chairman of the PAC to launch an immediate investigation into Cork County Council and its Executive over their actions. The CE of Cork County Council Tim Lucey and the Deputy CE Declan Daly and all other personnel that were part of this shambolic waste of tax payers money need to be held accountable for their decisions and be brought before the PAC to account for their actions. How many projects were shelved or went without money in Cork County as a result of this €50m being wasted? How many homes could have been built in Cork County with this €50m? I want answers and the public want answers and it is high time that public officials were held fully accountable for their actions”.
