Leeside AFC launched their “Leeside AFC Golf Classic 2019” on Friday, April 12 at the premises of Kuehne + Nagel (Ireland) Limited in Little Island, Co. Cork.
Kuehne + Nagel are this year’s proud corporate sponsor of the Leeside AFC Golf Classic. This event is always an important fundraiser for the club, and particularly this year, because they are seeking to build new dressing rooms for their expanding schoolboys and girls teams.
Established in 1968, and based in Little Island, Leeside AFC has grown considerably and is continuing to expand particularly in the schoolboys and girls teams. They have over 150 boys and girls ranging from 5 to 16 years old. Together with Juniors and Seniors there are a total of 21 teams in the club. One important and memorable football highlight was their U18 youth team from the 2016/17 season winning both the FAI National and Munster Youth Cups. In 2018 there was also great success for the schoolgirls when their U16 team won the Shield Final.

Brendan McCarthy is Leeside’s new Chairperson and brings to the club a 20 year playing career. He has been managing and coaching schoolboys’ teams at Leeside for the past 5 years, ever since his son Eoin started to play soccer. Brendan is based in Midleton and is always keen to point out that the club not only serves the community of Little Island, but also brings in players from other neighbouring localities too like Midleton, Carrigtwohill, Glounthaune, Knockraha, Glanmire, and Mayfield.

The Leeside AFC Golf Classic 2019 takes place on Friday, May 10 at Cobh Golf Club and promises to be a fun, relaxed, and highly entertaining day with teams of 3 playing a scramble tournament. There will be a meal included with prize giving later at the Elm Tree Bar and Restaurant, Glounthaune.
