As part of our In Conversation With series for the Little Island Business Association, we had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Mee, CEO of EHS International, about the company’s journey, its innovative approach to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) practices, and its commitment to both its clients and the wider community.
In a world where environmental responsibility and employee safety are increasingly important, EHS International is setting new standards. The company not only helps businesses reduce their environmental footprint and ensure compliance with stringent regulations, but it also supports local communities through numerous initiatives. As Chris Mee puts it, “Our goal is to help businesses minimise their environmental impact while protecting employees’ health and safety.”
From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leadership
With over three decades of experience in the EHS sector, Chris Mee founded EHS International in 2023 with a vision: to create Ireland’s leading provider of comprehensive EHS services. Today, EHS International is a trusted partner for companies across Ireland, offering services that range from safety training to environmental compliance. “We want to be the single source for businesses looking to ensure both compliance and safety,” says Chris.
Recently, EHS International marked two significant milestones with the launch of new offices in Ballymount, Dublin, and Little Island, Cork. These expansions underscore the company’s commitment to growth and its mission to lead in EHS standards.
Innovation and Leadership: A Unified Approach
EHS International’s success is built on a foundation of innovation and leadership. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and process safety engineering, the company provides clients with forward-thinking, cost-effective solutions. “Innovation is at the heart of EHS International,” Chris shares. “These technologies allow us to offer safety solutions that are both effective and affordable.”
Chris believes that assembling a world-class team is central to the company’s success. He explains, “Bringing together the best minds in the business was essential to fulfil our commitment to high-quality, comprehensive EHS services.” To support this vision, EHS International developed an in-house graduate programme, ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled professionals ready to advance the company’s innovative goals.
Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Triumphs
Every successful business faces challenges, and EHS International is no exception. Building the right leadership team has been one of Chris’s earliest hurdles. “Finding people who not only had the expertise but also shared the vision for innovation and excellence was crucial,” he reflects. The hard work has paid off, with EHS International emerging as an industry leader, delivering tailored solutions that cater to clients’ diverse safety needs.
Commitment to Communities: Safety Beyond the Workplace
EHS International’s dedication goes beyond the workplace. Chris and his team actively support local communities through sponsorships, health initiatives, and volunteer work. “Our commitment to supporting local communities is a core part of who we are,” Chris explains.
The company sponsors local sports teams, including the UCC Demons, and has supported young motorsport talent like Kayleigh Cole. EHS International also partners with organisations like Blood Bike South, offering Cardiac First Responder training at its facility and recently donated First Aid Kits to the Ringaskiddy Community Centre.
The Growing EHS Sector in Ireland
Ireland’s EHS sector is experiencing unprecedented growth, with companies increasingly understanding the value of strong safety practices. Chris explains, “The financial, reputational, and regulatory risks of inadequate safety management are now clear. This awareness is raising the standard across industries, creating safer, more sustainable workplaces.”
EHS International is well-positioned to lead as this trend continues, offering expertise and guidance to businesses navigating the complex landscape of safety and compliance.
A Vision for the Future
Looking to the future, Chris is optimistic about expanding EHS International’s reach both in Ireland and internationally. “We’re focused on integrating advanced safety technologies and exploring new markets,” he says, aiming to position the company as a global leader in EHS solutions.
Several exciting projects are in the works, including initiatives involving advanced safety technology. “Our goal is to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the EHS sector,” Chris adds, reinforcing his commitment to ongoing innovation.
Recent Recognition and Achievements

Chris Mee was named Business Person of the Year at the Little Island Business Association (LIBA) Awards, where EHS International also won Investment of the Year and Health & Safety Team of the Year. These accolades coincide with the official opening of the company’s €3 million Safety Training and Research & Development facility in Little Island, setting a new benchmark for fire safety training nationwide.
The LIBA Awards, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa in Cork, recognise over 1,000 businesses and 12,500 employees contributing to growth in Cork’s largest business district.
Earlier in the week, EHS International won the Best Use of LinkedIn for Business award (for companies with over 20 employees) at the Cork Digital Marketing Awards, hosted by Cork Chamber. This award underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging digital platforms to engage and educate the wider business community.
Reflecting on these achievements, Chris says, “It’s an incredible honour to be named Business Person of the Year, and I’m immensely proud of our team’s accomplishments. These wins reflect the dedication and innovative spirit that drives EHS International forward every day. After just over a year in business, we’re thrilled to be recognised at such prestigious events and are committed to continuing our investment in our people and our business.”
