Irish Notary Public Dr Bill Holohan SC Elected as World President and Chair of The Board of the Association of Common Law Notaries (ACLN)
The Board of the Association of Common Law Notaries (ACLN) has announced that at its recent AGM held at Henley-on-Thames, UK, on Saturday, 25 April 2026, Irish Notary Public Dr Bill Holohan SC, was elected as World President and Chair of the Board for a two-year term.
Dr. Holohan, in addition to being a Notary Public is also an Irish qualified Solicitor and a Senior Counsel. He is the Senior Partner of Holohan Lane LLP, the only firm of Irish Solicitors, Trademark Agents, and Notary Public with offices in both Cork & Dublin.
ACLN was originally established in 2010 at a meeting of representatives of the national Notariats (Associations) of England and Wales, British Columbia (Canada), Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, held in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. The Association was established to represent and support notaries public operating in common law jurisdictions around the world. It promotes professional standards, facilitates cross-border referrals, and connects notaries from member jurisdictions including Australia, British Columbia (Canada), England & Wales, Gambia, Guernsey, Ireland, Jersey, New Zealand and Nigeria.
ACLN plans to expand in coming years recruiting membership from other African common law jurisdictions, (such as Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania), Asian jurisdictions (such as Hong Kong, India and Singapore), and Caribbean jurisdictions (such as the Hamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands).
Work has already commenced in relation to the organisation of an April 2027 Conference to be held in UCC. Dr. Holohan has confirmed that he is looking forward to “embracing the challenges of the position of Chair and welcoming delegates from all around the world to the 2027 Conference in UCC.”
