Tell us about your career to date?
I began my IT career with Paradyn where I gained a lot of experience in Network support and Network Security. I am currently working with Westtech Technologies as a PreSales and Network Support Engineer. I throughly enjoy my role and the daily challenges it brings.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever heard, career or otherwise?
Always keep a positive attitude and never stop learning.
What should graduates know and be able to do?
Graduates should know their strengths and match their skillset to the job market.
It is also good for them to have a plan for the future. During university partaking in work experience and internships which would help to create a fast track to their career.
How important is upskilling to you?
It is vital in this sector (IT) to upskill on a regular basis to stay on top.
What upcoming plans do you have for the business in the near future?
In the near future my plan is to give 110% effort to this company so we can grow the business and expand nationwide and afar. I am excited to be part of such an exciting and rapidly growing business.
What drew you to the industry?
I have always had an interest in Technology, in my youth one of my hobbies was film making, with a friend we won Best Film in 2007 and the following year top prize for Special Effects at the Cork Youth International Film Festival.
If you couldn’t do what you do now, what career would you have?
If I had not chosen this career, I would like to have been an Airline Pilot. I have clocked up numerous hours flying a Cessna 172 as a hobby.
What does ‘success’ mean to you?
When I reflect back on the previous year and I have reached my goals both work and personal that’s what success means to me.
What makes a great boss?
A great boss has excellent communication skills (they know the right thing to say to staff at the right time) organisation skills and prioritising the workload. Communication is key. If everyone is aware of a common goal and expectations then everyone can work towards the same goal.
Who do you admire?
My parents. They always encouraged me and gave me the confidence to pursue my goals.
