Could you tell me a little about your role within the company?
I manage the IT & Recruitment departments with the Chris Mee Group.
Our IT division provides a cloud-based safety platform for training, induction and compliance. Our clients can automate their onboarding and upskilling of their workforce while ensuring standards are kept to the highest levels.
Our Recruitment business provides staffing services to our clients for specialised EHS position. Our experienced safety professional’s insight and understanding of our clients needs allows us to provide thoroughly screened candidates to some of the largest companies in Europe.
How did you get into the job?
I started my career in software development in Cork. Wanting to connect more with people and less with code, I moved into recruitment specialising in information technology. I originally joined the Chris Mee Group in a recruitment role that gradually expanded to include the company’s IT needs. When we decided to expand our services into a safety platform, I moved full time into the technology role. In January of this year, I re-joined the recruitment department and now split my time between both IT & Recruitment.

How important do you think upskilling is?
The pace of change in society is faster now than ever before in history. As new challenges and opportunities present themselves, it is the people who are continuously learning that will be in the best position to deal with these. Upskilling is vital to stay competent and competitive as new challenges such as automation and artificial intelligence become larger parts of all our lives. Having just completed a H. Dip in HR Management in UCC, I feel lifelong learning is becoming the new normal.
How stressful is your job?
While things can get busy and sometimes you wish for more hours in a day, I don’t think my job is particularly stressful. I work with a great group of professionals who are dedicated and invested in the company’s success, this definitely makes things easier.
